RAILWAY DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY	JORDAN

For this project for the Government of Jordan (GoJ), CPCS assisted in the development of a railway master plan that will lead to the establishment of an effective railway network in the country as part of a regionally integrated and oriented rail transport system.

Over the duration of the two-year study, some of the key tasks included:

• Assessment of future domestic and regional rail traffic;
• Definition of rail corridors, including pre-feasibility engineering design and costing;
• Assessment of the economic and financial viability of phased development; and
• Establishment of an implementation program consistent with other national transport       
•     and development objectives and he rail development plans of Jordan’s neighbours

Based on presentation of our findings to Cabinet in May 2008, GoJ set up a Cabinet Subcommittee to finalize and implement a rail strategy. CPCS has been invited to return to Jordan as strategic advisor to this Subcommittee.
