CPCS conducted a study leading to the identification of strategic options for improving the movement of cargo and associated infrastructure in the State of Paraná, Brazil. In particular, the study identified means of alleviating the existing bottlenecks along the rail network that were hindering the growth of rail traffic between the western Paraná and the export port of Paranágua.

Working with the State Chamber of Commerce and Industry, CPCS developed a series of alternate strategies for increasing the overall efficiency of the rail-based multimodal transport network in Paraná, leading to increased traffic on the rail network and a general increase in the moment of goods and people.

The work carried out by our multidisciplinary team of experts included: study of legal/regulatory framework in Paraná; assessment of traffic trends and railway’s relative competitiveness to road transport; study of new rail alignment; environmental, social, and gender impact assessments of various transport investment options; development of a detailed cost estimate of selected transport improvement option; and detailed financial and economic study to evaluate the viability of the selected transport improvement options on a commercial basis.
