The Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) asked CPCS to study and review the existing passenger vehicle maintenance practices and develop an optimum strategy keeping in mind the current requirements and future growth plans.  The study was carried out in following two parts:

1. To find a suitable location in Riyadh for setting up running maintenance and heavy repair facilities for 8 train-sets to run between Dammam and Riyadh.
2. To review passenger coach maintenance plans and examine whether an integrated maintenance facility for train-sets and coaching stock can be set up at Riyadh or coaching fleet maintenance should continue at Dammam.

CPCS completed the project on time and submitted the Study Report to SRO containing the following:

• Review of SRO’s passenger coach maintenance plans.
• Maintenance strategy and recommended location for passenger coach maintenance facility
• Train-set and passenger coach integrated maintenance depot designs.
• Proposed locations for setting up integrated maintenance depot.
• Cost of each proposal
• Conclusions and Recommendations
• All the necessary drawings

CPCS reviewed a passenger coach maintenance plan, identified strengths and weaknesses of both the locations, Dammam and Riyadh, and recommended it to be moved to Riyadh.
