SOCIAL IMPACT & POVERTY ALLEVIATION
CPCS established the Social Impact and Poverty Alleviation Practice in 2001 to ensure social and environmental development issues were appropriately addressed in all of our bilateral and multilateral funded project work.
CPCS develops strategies to provide essential infrastructure services to remote communities. We develop innovative strategies to involve local communities in the management and maintenance of infrastructure. Using participatory approaches we measure the impact of proposed developments on the poor and on the environment. We work with government and developers to maximize the beneficial impacts and minimize the harmful impacts of infrastructure projects. CPCS is committed to poverty alleviation as the main goal of development assistance. We assist clients by looking at labour issues such as staff redundancy, retraining and development of entrepreneurship, and by examining the poverty impact of our projects. We understand the importance of social and community development as part of the overall development of transport networks. We have put significant effort into building our practice in this area as an integral part of the “transport projects” that we undertake.
